Low-emission zones (milieuzones) operate in some Dutch city centres, but for cars they apply only to diesels, which are admitted by emission class; petrol, LPG and electric cars may enter every zone. Foreign-registered vehicles follow the same rules, with no need to register in advance, and municipalities usually enforce them with number-plate cameras.
The A24, the Blankenburg connection between the A20 at Vlaardingen and the A15 at Rozenburg, is a toll road that uses e-TOL. The system works without toll gates: it takes a photo of your number plate, and you pay online yourself, before or after the trip, or sign up for automatic payment. Signs on the approach point to toll-free alternatives such as the A4 Beneluxtunnel and the A16 Van Brienenoord bridge.
